Free Wind Load Calculator for Doors and Windows

ASCE 7-22 Door/Window Wind Pressure Calculator

ASCE 7-22 Door/Window Wind Pressure Calculator

How to Use This Calculator

This tool estimates wind pressures on doors and windows (components and cladding) for low-rise enclosed buildings based on ASCE 7-22. Follow these steps:

  1. Wind Speed: Enter the ultimate wind speed (V) in mph from ASCE 7-22 maps for your risk category and location.
  2. Building Dimensions: Input the length, width, and mean roof height (h) in feet (assumes low-rise, h ≤ 60 ft).
  3. Exposure Category: Choose B (urban/suburban), C (open terrain), or D (coastal/flat) based on surrounding terrain.
  4. Topographic Factor (Kzt): Enter Kzt (default 1.0 for flat sites; use ASCE Fig. 26.8-1 if hill/ridge/escarpment).
  5. Effective Wind Area: Enter the area (A) of the door or window in sq ft (affects GCp for negative pressures).
  6. Click “Calculate” to see results, including pressures and loads for Zones 4 (interior) and 5 (corners).

Understanding Zones: Zone 5 is the end zone within ‘a’ feet from corners/edges (calculated per ASCE 30.3). Zone 4 is the interior wall area. Assumes enclosed building (GCpi = ±0.18).

Note: For h > 60 ft or non-low-rise, use full ASCE methods. Positive pressures are inward; negative are outward (suction).
